News, Updates and Other Minutiae

August 2019

Website outage - I made some hosting changes and there was a minor hiccup. Hopefully everything is now back to normal but please let me know if anything is missing.

The start of a new project added in the Homebrew category. Specifically, a Frequency Dependant Switch. Measures the incoming frequency and switches 1 of 8 outputs on. Software for this project uploaded.

June 2019

Added another project for the AD9850 DDS modules. A Simple DDS sweeper in the Homebrew section. This is an absolutely basic, no frills project using a 12F1840 to sweep a DDS module between a range of frequencies. Plenty of scope for you to improve on the software and add extra features.

Privacy Policy uploaded. It may be viewed at the Privacy Policy link in the footer.

Custom code/webhost costs

I have, for quite a while, provided modified versions of the code for my projects free of charge. However, the cost of webhosting for this site has tripled in the last few of years and shows no signs of getting any cheaper.

As of October 2017, I will be asking for a donation in exchange for providing custom modified code for my projects to help keep this site available.

GPDR and all that stuff

In accordance with various bits of legislation around the world, either currently in force, about to come into force or proposed, you will now find that annoying "We use cookies" notice at the top of this website. Please note that the ONLY cookies currently used on this site are for that pop-up (see https://cookieconsent.insites.com/) and Google Analytics. The full Privacy Policy is available at the Privacy Policy link in the footer at the bottom of the page. (If you don't know what GPDR is, Google it. Real scary shit for ANYBODY with a web presence.)

Welcome

Welcome to my little corner of the Internet known as VK5TM. Hopefully, it will turn into something useful to somebody at some stage. My name is Terry (Ham callsign VK5TM) and I live with my wife in the small town of Tintinara in South Australia. It is intended to put my endeavors in getting back on the air, as well as homebrew (constructional) projects on this website. Current ham equipment consists of an FT7 donated by a friend, an FT757Mk1 (Purchased cheap with a known receive fault), two Jing Tong handhelds (2m and 70cm) and assorted accessories either purchased cheap, donated by friends or home built. An old and eclectic array of equipment yes, but a bad car accident some years ago leaves no choice but to make do with what one can and hopefully it will inspire others to get on the air as well. Other hobbies include electronics and model railways. It is electronics that basically ties all my hobbies together in one way or another and was also the major part of my working life. As this website progresses, I will add a seperate area for the model railway stuff and the electronics will be encompassed by the homebrew section of the site. I'm slowly getting to grips with HTML5 and CSS (and PHP as of July 2012) so the site is progressing. Update notes will be put in the left column under the menu as things change. Rather than a long list of dates only a couple of dates will be left there. Older dates will be dropped off. This site is being written with Notepad++ rather than an all singing, all dancing web package. Unless absolutely necessary, there wont be any flashy whirly-gigs, fancy what-sits or scripting of any sort on this site. Some may say it looks 'so last year', but I was born well before last year and that's the way it's going to be. You should have noticed by now that there are no ad's or pop-ups on this site. This site is paid for out of my own pocket, so I may ask for donations at a later date. As much as I would like to, I'm not going to put any time frames on the updating/addition of new material to the site, but I will do my best to try and add something extra on a monthly basis at least. The menu to the left will hold the major area pointers and each area will have their own sub menus. With the change to a mobile friendly site, the menu bar is now across the top, so any references to the 'menu on the left' should be interpreted as 'the menu at the top'. Any off-site links will be at the bottom of a page and will open in a new window.
