News, Updates and Other Minutiae

August 2019

Website outage - I made some hosting changes and there was a minor hiccup. Hopefully everything is now back to normal but please let me know if anything is missing.

The start of a new project added in the Homebrew category. Specifically, a Frequency Dependant Switch. Measures the incoming frequency and switches 1 of 8 outputs on. Software for this project uploaded.

June 2019

Added another project for the AD9850 DDS modules. A Simple DDS sweeper in the Homebrew section. This is an absolutely basic, no frills project using a 12F1840 to sweep a DDS module between a range of frequencies. Plenty of scope for you to improve on the software and add extra features.

Privacy Policy uploaded. It may be viewed at the Privacy Policy link in the footer.

Custom code/webhost costs

I have, for quite a while, provided modified versions of the code for my projects free of charge. However, the cost of webhosting for this site has tripled in the last few of years and shows no signs of getting any cheaper.

As of October 2017, I will be asking for a donation in exchange for providing custom modified code for my projects to help keep this site available.

GPDR and all that stuff

In accordance with various bits of legislation around the world, either currently in force, about to come into force or proposed, you will now find that annoying "We use cookies" notice at the top of this website. Please note that the ONLY cookies currently used on this site are for that pop-up (see https://cookieconsent.insites.com/) and Google Analytics. The full Privacy Policy is available at the Privacy Policy link in the footer at the bottom of the page. (If you don't know what GPDR is, Google it. Real scary shit for ANYBODY with a web presence.)

Welcome to the website of VK5TM.

Regular visitors to my website know what is available here, but if you are new to my website here us a quick run-down of whats here. Some information and software (PIC based) on the use of the AD9850/51 modules that (were) cheaply available from various auction sites. Projects range from a signal generator to a simple VFO and even a Xtal substitute. A project using the Si5351 as a Xtal substitute, originally for the Pic-a-Star project (search the internet for it), but useful for other things as well. In todays world of never-ending interference, there is the Noise Canceller project. This is my version of the X-phase project and while not a solution to every interference problem, it does help in the majority of cases. There are a few videos on the net showing this project in operation from various builders, just search for VK5TM Noise Canceller. Also, there are some Model Railway projects (I haven't worked out why there is a reasonably large proportion of Hams who are also into trains/model railways, but there are). These pages are still in the "Under construction" phase with some basic information available. They will slowly be completed as time and inclination allows. There is more tucked away on the various pages which can be accessed from the menu bar at the top of the page. See the left hand side for updates/changes/whats new etc.

TIP - need pcb pins or sockets to connect to pcb pins? Find an old lead with DB style connectors that you no longer have use for and carefully remove the pins.

As a lot of people have pics of things unrelated to ham radio on their websites, I thought I would add a couple of my own. Banjo, our Red Heeler/Koolie cross at 4 months old. And at 12 months old (Feb 2016) enjoying his birthday breakfast treat of banana on toast.

A new addition to the family, an 11 week old kitten (end July 2017), rescued by Banjo after being trapped between a water tank and fence. Her name is Storm after her colouring and she's eating a bit of toast and jam (yes, our animals do eat strange things, including lemon meringue pie). They are now the best of friends.

Banjo hasn't got any bigger than he was at 12 months old and although Storm has, she is going to be a miniature cat. When I can get her to sit still long enough, I will try and get a pic with some sort of reference to show how small she is compared to other cats of the same age (she weighed 2.5kg when we took her to the vet to be spayed mid Nov 2017). In the meantime, above is a pic of the pair of them together under the ceiling fan (it was a stinking hot day).

RIP OFF MERCHANTS!!!!

Moron's

These people have dishonestly STOLEN my hard work for their own benefit. Bukalapak - YC9FY https://www.bukalapak.com/p/elektronik/walkie-talkie/lshqpu-jual-pcb-dds-vfo-vk5tm-fr4 <-this is not a clickable link. Far Circuits USA - recent information (November 2018) indicates this prick is still at it, despite a Cease and Desist Notice. and one more in Germany <- Looks like this one may have stopped selling my pcb's, smart move! There are probably others I am not currently aware of, but as I find them, they will be added to this list. As a result, I will no longer make available pcb design files for any of my works. THERE IS NOBODY SELLING ANY OF MY DESIGNS THAT HAS MY PERMISSION.
